About Me
Kat Mok (she/her)
I am a Master-accredited counsellor, fluent in both English and Japanese, and founder of Kisetsu Counselling. Kisetsu means “season” in Japanese – a reminder that our lives, like nature, move through constant transitions. Many of them go unrecognised. I lived, studied and worked in Japan for more than 15 years and particularly loved experiencing four distinct seasons. Each season offered unique opportunities, but also distinct challenges. My role is to walk alongside you through these changes, helping you make sense of your experiences and co-create new stories that may fit better in this season of life.
I am passionate about narrative therapy, an approach that helps me notice your neglected stories, knowledge or skills, so that you can gain new perspectives and regain your agency to make choices that best align with your values. I am also interested in our context and the social and cultural ideas that shape our values and stories. Sometimes these stories limit us; other times, they hold strength, hope and possibility. Together, we will nurture the stories that ignite your passion, guide your choices and help you be present in all parts of your life.
I’d love to chat if you are ready to explore and share your stories. To schedule an appointment please email or call me.
Kisetsu counselling embraces...
Connection
When we feel connected to others, or part of something larger than ourselves, and experience being welcomed, heard and understood, our wellbeing can be supported. Counselling offers a space for this kind of connection—with others and with ourselves. In this space, you are invited to share your stories, explore different perspectives, and make meaning in ways that feel genuine to you.
Curiosity
Curiosity about others and their lives is one of the core values of my practice. I believe you are the expert in your life and that assumptions are often unhelpful. Staying endlessly curious about others helps me to connect with you and create a strong foundation for our therapeutic relationship. Hopefully, through our conversations you may become reacquainted with wonderful parts of yourself that you have lost along the way.
Transparency
An important part of my practice is acknowledging and being aware of power in the counselling room, but also in the systems in which we work and live. After each session, I write a letter for each client pondering one or two things that I noticed or stood out to me and I will offer other questions or curiosities to consider. Rather than casenotes that tend to pathologise people, this letter will form the only written record of our conversation and it will be in the hands of the client, not filed away in a drawer.

I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which I work and live, the Turrbal and Yuggera people. I pay my respects to their Elders, past and present and emerging. This land was never ceded. It was and always will be Aboriginal land.
